Projects

Below describes some projects that I have worked on in emerging markets

Lipa Later

Lipa Later is a credit lending company based in Nairobi, Kenya. They brought me in to help improve their data science models used for credit scoring in order to provide the best possible credit terms to their customers while reducing default rate. I also helped improve their customer segmentation techniques in order to identify the ideal customers that Lipa Later should focus on. Lastly, I recommended improvements they should make to their data infrastructure, provided guidance on how they can leverage data science to improve their collections workflow and suggested data models that will be valuable to create for their future data science and analytics needs.

Kasha Global

Kasha Global started off in Rwanda and has expanded its reach through other parts of East Africa, such as Kenya. It is enabling delivery of feminine health products to rural areas through e-commerce and USSD platforms. Kasha needed support in improving their data analytics infrastructure and conducting analysis that showed its impact on health indicators in East Africa. I helped create data models for relevant databases and defined logic for pipelines in order to improve data accuracy and curation. I also created an automated dashboard that tracked key metrics and showed impact of Kasha's initiatives on family planning outcomes.

Aga Khan Hospital

The Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi recently opened a state-of-the-art cancer center to provide specialized care to patients battling cancer. They had collected a lot of data on their clinical trials, patient outcomes and health screening but had not had the opportunity to analyze them. To date, I have helped identify geographical distribution of individuals at risk of breast cancer. Future projects will seek to identify features common amongst those complying with breast cancer screening protocols vs. not.
